Dr. Anna Sampaio is Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies and Political Science at Santa Clara University where she teaches and researches in the areas of Latina/o politics, immigration, ethnic/racial politics, gender politics post-colonialism, and transnationalism. She previously served as full-time faculty at Rutgers University (Women's and Gender Studies Department) and the University of Colorado Denver (Political Science Department) and she has held part-time positions at the University of California Riverside, CSU Hayward, and  the University of California, Santa Cruz. She holds a BA in Political Science from Santa Clara University and an MA and PhD in Political Science from the University of California at Riverside. Her work has appeared in a number of publications including the American Political Science Review, Politics Science Quarterly, New Political Science, Women’s Studies Quarterly, Latino Studies, PS: Political Science and Politics and the International Feminist Journal of Politics. Her most recent book is entitled Transnational Latino/a Communities: Politics, Processes and Cultures (2002)from Rowman and Littlefield and highlights the shifting immigration patterns of Latinos/as in the late 20th century. Her current research centers on the impact of post 9-11 immigration policies on the lives of Latino/a immigrants. Outside of the university, she has served on several professional committees including the Governing Council of the American Political Science Association, the Latino/a Caucus of the American Political Science Association and the Women’s Caucus of the Western Political Science Association. She has worked with and served on the board of several non-profit and community based organizations organizations serving the Latino population including the Latina Initiative, Escuela Guadelupe, Escuela Tlatelolco, and the Mexican American Community Service Agency.
